I itched it, then it started to hurt. Then it started swelling and turning color, in seconds it looks like I'd bruised it pretty hard, but hadn't done anything more than itch. I think nothing of it really until I go home and Kurt flips out about it, has me call the clinic advice line. The advice line nurse tells me that it may be indicative of a DVT (blood clot in your leg, it can kill you) because of my hormone medication and I need to go to the ER to have an ultrasound of my legs. So, I go, wait until about 12:30 before anyone can see me, and the doctor tells me though I do have a clot in my hand, it indicates nothing and will probably just go away. So the nurse gave me dumb advice, scared me for no reason, I got home at 2 this morning. The doctor told me I have to come back if it starts to hurt again and it does today, but fuck that, I'm never going to that clinic again. Eh, I'm giving it a week and if it doesn't clear up I'll go somewhere else. It's easy to claim being straightedge and actively believe it when your younger, not so easy when you hit 21+over and the real peer pressure kicks in.
Wow the US is so different to the UK, or maybe just where you are MLA. Here most kids start drinking heavily from between the ages of 14-18 and that is when the peer pressure starts.
Yeah, true till 21 is a big issue in the scene, which means most people don't take you seriously until after 21.

Yeah, but that was a different time back when we was young. There was a big change come the 90's with the attitude towards sex, drugs and rock -n- roll. Not saying that there aren't any kids like that, just a majority of the kids I have known in the last 10/15 yrs have been more the straightedge mentality. Growing up, I was one of the few still pure during high school. Nearly all my immediate friends had already had multiple partners. With my 3 kids, it has been the opposite. The one or two girls who are active sexually and it was " oh my god!" . Same with drugs and alcohol. We would play.....quarters in the parking lot before school........ssssssshhhhhh.......... Now the party kids are outnumbered in school. At least that is the way it is here. Then again my crew went to/still are in Catholic schools, so that could be the difference.

Well, I know a lot of kids who went to Catholic school and most of them were pretty sheltered and well behaved in high school but if they lived in a college dorm later holy crap they partied more than anyone.

I find this Crew thing strange Its not common over here, infact I would say it don't happen does it make a differance to have "Crews" ect? in the youth community

As far as I know, only straightedge kids have crews, though about half of them are vegan. I would say it's like a positive version of a gang (though there have been incidents in Salt Lake and other places where it's pretty much just a gang) where you just hang out with other people who have the same standards for themselves. Generally crews are for the 21+ crowd and have a tough sounding name, like courage crew or fuck you crew. edit: I have also not really ever known enough other straightedge people I could stand to be around to be in a serious crew, and a few of them have sold out anyway. It's pretty much just me and Mr. Fury, my vegan ex is staightedge too, but for obvious reasons we don't hang around with him.

I wonder how well Straightedge Shot Glasses would sell.....
Another great snarky comment from FD.
