Welcome to [b]MG's Naked Hatted Avatar Week 2008 Thread Review Special.[/b]

Finally it is here! This review is becoming as much of a tradition as the thread itself. I hope you will enjoy reliving the experience of NHAW 2008 one more time!

I apologise to all Hat fans but there are no pictures contained here, a few descriptions to help you out but thats it. If you want to see the picture in question then check the PDF linked in Laron's sig. He saved a PDF of all 61 pages as close to the time when the Avatar was current as possible. However these will be small size pictures of course, so if you want a full size NHAW pic then send a creepy PM to your boarder of choice, they will probably send it to you cos after all we're all massive attention h00rs round here!

Once again we must begin by thanking Ran and the Mods for allowing this to take place.  Many other websites would just ban this whole thing so kudos for having such a good sense of fun and understanding. This year there has been absolutely no intervention from the Mods that I am aware of so well done to everyone who took part for not pushing things beyond the acceptable and for general good behaviour. Its very easy for this to step across the line and stop being fun so good on you all for keeping it fun and HAT.

This year the thread that eventually became the official NHAW thread was started two weeks prior by an impatient Lucky Pierre....

Back in the mists of time (3 years ago) towards the end of September, there was a chat session, a legendary chat session. And as these things do it snowballed into an idea for something of awesome proportions, a monster which could not be stopped, the perfect synthesis of nakedness and hattedness. Its just incredible nobody had thought of this before! This now much looked forward to annual event also doubles up as the Board's biggest recruitment drive of the year or something like that anyway....

Its strange but when I met Blue Rose in Denver a few months ago I barely thought about the fact that I have seen her Too Hot for NHAW pics. Well alright maybe once or twice, but it did not really come up as a topic of conversation, ya know. Everyone is just so cool and friendly that its just natural and it does not cause embarrassment, no problem at all so don't worry and don't let it put you off going to conventions and other Board events.

I'll start at the begining.   Its a bright lovely sunny Saturday morning, and I am feelig especially daring.  So I pack up my "Hats" miniture Tripod, Camera and remote for Camera  and head off down a few footpaths and into the local woods.  then I roam well off the footpath so I should be completely alone.

I play arround for a couple of hours with the camera and remote but I just can't seam to get the remote to work (I'll have to read the instructions).  Oh well have to do this the old fasiond way and set the timer to take lots of pics only seconds apart.  After working out a good poses and and with time to get into the assumed possition.  Practice clothed shots look like this might just work.  I deciede that as I have sean or heard no-one all morning then everything should be ok.

I remove my clothes in a patch of fern, poke my head out for one last look around and go for it.  Set the timer going and race to my pose. And then (yes you have allready guessed it) I hear voices.  FUCK!  I dive into the bushes, and then remember that my clothes where in the other bushes,  the ones with nice foilage and not brambles and blackberries.  I might be nakid, and scratched to buggery and without even a Hat  (I droped that) but at least no-one has seen me.  Hopefully whoever it is won't spot the camera flashing away for 10 pics and swipe it.

The Voices get closer Its a Kid and his Dad.  I stay absolutely still and hide.  The kid (about 8 ) and Dad walk within a few feet of my Bush.  However they seam oblivious to me, nor dot hey see the Camera.  and carry on walking.  I Dare to breath and think you will all have a good laugh at my expense.

I feel something Cold wet and very scary Lick my Bum!  I Scream  Loudly.  It was a friendly labrador.  The Dad turns and Runs towards me.  Oh Shite!  The only thing I can do now is poke my head throught the top of the brambles and hope there is enough covering me so he don't reliese I'm completely Nakid.

I spend the next Ten Minuets trying to convice this Guy that I'm fine, I just get nervous around dogs, cos of a bad childhood experiance.  He really doesn't want to leave me and sounds very concerned.  He does not think I should be hiding in the bushes.  I tell him I'm studing Woodland animal Migration and conservation at the University of East London. No serriously I am ok,  Your Dog just startled me.  I am trying to take photo's of Black Squirrels because they are not native to our country and have recently migrated southern Europe.  Its one effect of Global warming you can see today.  Only they are very shy, you won't see them if they spot you first.  So its very rare to get a good pic.     

I really start Rambling about the differences between Grey, Black and Red Squirrels.  And how the Black Squirrel is such a threat to the natural habitat of lots of woodland beatles.  All the while this labradore, who had now lost interest in my Arse is paying great attention to my frontage.  despite my best effets.  Hands can only block so much, when you can't move very far.

I think I convinced him I'm a harmless lunitic.  Eventually he called his dog and kid and went away.  When I was sure they had gone I clothed myself.  then I nearly died with releif.

- Pebble is at work and while checking to see why a work laptop is so slow finds a load of child pr0n on the hard drive, one creep goes to jail
- Pebble is at work and has to clear up a computer which becomes a biohazard after a "dirty" protest from a disgruntled employee
- Pebble is at work when some asshole who has seen her NHAW pic from the board says to her "sorry, did not recognise you with your clothes on" - he suddenly found himself without Internet access
- Pebble is at work and nearly gets caught by the security gguardwhile she is taking NHAW pics
- Pebble waits for her wedding night to pop her cherry and during the cconsummationthere is an earthquake, yes the earth really did move for them
and many other great stories that I have probably forgotten

You probably noticed that one boarder in particular has not been mentioned as much in this review as she should have been, its the person who had the most NHAW pics this year - Teri. For NHAW this year Teri went to the effort of hiring a professional photographer to take her photographs. You might think, thats a lot of effort to go to, is she taking this way too seriously or what? Well, yes she is, but you have to understand what NHAW means to Teri:

And that right there is the true meaning of NHAW, its a feelgood thing, an inspiration, a catalyst for change, real life improvement, motivation for happiness. Congratulations Teri, I am so happy for you and proud to have had some part in helping to inspire you :grouphug: 

Last year Teri was very unhappy with the way she looked, the way she felt about herself. She only felt confident enough to post pictures of doll hats on her toes.  When NHAW came along she realised that she wanted to do something about this so that she would be able to feel comfortable to join in with us one day. With hard work, determination and self-sacrifice she has changed the way she feels about herself and changed her life - for the better. I know this sounds like some cheesy and puke inducing TV Infommercial, but this is a genuine story of inspiration right here amongst our own ASOIAF community.  Now just look at her, Teri looks amazing and its not all about the weight she has lost. Its that warm glow in her smile that lets you know she is happy with who she is and where her life is at right now.

So if you are feeling unhappy with your life, the way you look, the way you feel about yourself - then take this as inspiration to do something positive about it. Make a change, be determined and if you're looking for encouragement and support then everyone on the board is here for you.  Seriously - go for it!

And that is the reason why we're going to keep doing Naked Hatted Avatar Week, whether anybody else approves of it or not. Its not about the thrill of seeing other people naked. Its not even about seeing a really great hat worn well. Its about seeing who a person really is. Its about inner beauty.
